Gaya Sightseeing Tour

Among India’s holy places, Gaya holds a special place. Its dual status as a Jains, Buddhists, and Hindu pilgrimage site may make it special.

But it’s also well-known for being connected to Gautama Buddha, who is supposed to have reached enlightenment there. Nonetheless, Gaya is mentioned in the Purana and precedes Buddha. It gets its name from the demon Gayasur, who underwent strict penance and received Lord Vishnu’s blessing. The rocks that encircle Gaya are thought to be the remains of Gayasur. Whether by coincidence or not, Buddha is regarded as Lord Vishnu’s ninth incarnation, and his image can even be seen in the step well at Patan that honors Vishnu’s ten avatars.
